Zee Marathi presented the annual “Unch MaajhaZoka Awards” on 19th August 2016 and I was pleasantly surprised and extremely happy to see my friend Taramati Matiwade feature in the Awardee list. The Lifetime achievement award was given to Naseema Hurzuk of the Helpers for Handicaps organization. Journalist Kumar Ketkar, Dr. Vidya Rajadhyaksh and Dr.Snehlata Deshmukh worked as the panel judges to select the top 7 from the thousands eligible across the state.
The awards were given to Usha Madavi for Environment, Dr.Smita Lele for health and Science, Preeti Patkar and Swati Sathe for Social cause, Kavita Jadhav Bidwe for Agriculture and my friend Taramati Matiwade for Sports. Sairat Fame director Nagraj Manjule felicitated her and said that we all look up to Film stars as our real hero’s, while the fact is people like Taramati are our real life Hero’s. Taramati said that sailing is a sport not very popular in India and hence there is less acceptance and participation in this sport. She was determined to achieve success in this sport and hence during the International Yachting competition held in Dubai, Taramati was the only female contestant in the entire competition and she went on to win the Title too. She is committed to taking India to all possible places in this sport where it is possible for her. She has received accolades from within the country and abroad too. We are all proud of you Tara. Congratulations and way to go! 🙂
