Birista – A honest Review

Birista is making and delivering food across Belapur and has started operations on 16^th December 2016 in the most crowded food places of Navi Mumbai at Sector 15. I had the chance to taste some of the specially curated menu by Chef. My experience to this new food joint was pleasing. Here is why:.

Ambience

Located at the central place in sector 15 amidst some of the very popular food joints and restaurants of Navi Mumbai is this small place. Known as Birista, which literally means the fried onions used over Biryani. The place warmly welcomes you with earthen pots put up on the wall on one side and some clay bottles and pots on the 3 dining tables. The place is small with an open kitchen and grill in front of you. You can choose the Seekh you want and ask it to be grilled. The décor is simple yet elegant and the lights are perfect for the interiors.

Food

We started our food trip with the kebabs and were served some veg kebabs. These are mildly spiced and are here to stay. The non veg section has a variety of kebabs yet chosen and maintained to a precise figure thereby not confusing the customers. The choice we get here is clear and hence defined. As mentioned by the Chef and Co-Owner Shabaz, the 15 varieties of Kebabs have been divided into three categories, namely the spicy, mild to spicy and mild or mild to sweeter ones. I recommend the Deccan Kebabs for the spice loving, Murgh Sia Seekh for the mild to spicy loving, the Creamy Garlic and Mayo Tikka for the mild to sweet loving ones.

The Home delivered as well as the served food is hot for over 2 hours after delivery since all the Biryani are put on Dum sealed with the Taftaan over the clay pot. These pots are then served over the table/delivered at your doorstep as it is. So unless you cut open the Taftaan, the steam is locked inside keeping the food hot. The Biryani has only boneless pieces and is cooked well on slow heat. This infuses all the flavors of the Masala into the rice and the flavored steam cooks the Taftan making it perfect to be eaten just plain.

We finished with the meal with the Zafrani Phirni which is again very well balanced.

What I personally loved about the food is the amount of oil used. People who are health conscious would love these dishes as there is no dripping oil and no drowsiness, even after a heavy meal like the one we had. When the food is mild to spicy on tongue and light on the stomach, it remains in memory for a long time.

Service

The Service is satisfactory. The staff is well trained and knew how to serve exact measures and portions.

Plus and Minus
To start with the Plus, they are serving in a decent time, which reflects well on their service. The packaging is nice and gives a professional look. When it comes to foodies like me who look at authentic taste etc, then the Kebabs pass with high marks. They appeared marinated for the right time, making the meat juicy and the flavors coming out eve from deep inside the bite. The crunch on the outer side is just near to perfect. There is always scope for improvement and the chef heard me out and my suggestions patiently. I am sure it will add more value to their creations.

Overall, I would give 4.0 stars to Birista and also with a recommendation to try the food if you are there.
