I was pleasantly surprised last month when the Transferkars offered me a PG accommodation. The house was big and my room was cozy. In fact Dadi Transferkar had made personal arrangements to deck up my room and I was glad to have found a family to stay with. The day I took the room, I was treated with extreme love and care and I felt it was my own family. Since it was late at night when I reached their house, I slept immediately with satisfaction that I had found the perfect house I needed and an even more loving family which I so missed all these years.
When I woke up in the morning, I was first greeted with the newspaper from Dilip Transferkar and we had a small chat. He said he was very comfortable with me being around and asked him to “support” him in the house. I felt a bit awkward as to why Dilip would need my support and for what purpose? Nevertheless, since he had been a good host, I smiled and told him I would do so. A few minutes after he left, Dada Transferkar came and politely asked me the newspaper. He then sat for a few minutes with me asking me about my Blogging experiences and said that he admired and liked my work. He then slowly moved closer and whispered in my ears if I could “Support” him in the house. His emotional blackmailing was on all the while “You are like my son, so you should support me”. I was confused but kept quiet with a smile and just nodded. The moment he was out, Dadi Transferkar came in and asked me if had slept well. I replied in the affirmative to which she said that she had casually come to check how I was feeling in the new house and told me briefly about her liking for action sports. The moment I said I too was a sport person and was in Strength Training, she immediately shook hands with me saying that she expected me to “Support” her in whatever she would do in the house. Now I did not know what to say and merely accepted her firm handshake and let the topic go by. Dadi Transferkar left with a smile and I could see Mom Transferkar peeping from one of the windows. As soon as she saw Dadi leaving, she sneaked in with a large tray of Breakfast and hot piping coffee. I don’t know how she found my weakness of being a foodie. She allowed me to eat the breakfast all the while talking how she loved football and as a standard practice I too told her that I love the game. She came to pick up the plates after my breakfast was done and told me with a stern and cold, decisive look rather than a one with request “If you don’t want to go hungry in this house, I expect you to “Support” me in this house”. I was shocked, surprised, scared all at the same time for the first time in my life. What did the “Support” mean? Why was everyone in the house hell bent on getting my “Support”? What was I supposed to do by giving the “Support”?
I would gladly run away now with so much of suspense had it not been the young boy of the house Rahul Transferkar. He came at the end to talk to me and then smiled and laughed when I narrated the incident to him about the Transferkar Family asking me “Support” to them individually. His only single line sent the cold shiver down the spine “Uncle, aagey aagey dekho hota hai kya?” I knew something bad was in store for me and this young boy would not tell me unless we became friends.
I got ready to rush to the office and the car came to pick me up on time. I watched my favorite cooking shows on Fox Life on my mobile and one does not realize how the 1.5 hour distance gets covered. Most importantly, I don’t have to use any of my internet data bandwidth. I had recorded the previous day programs which I had missed and enjoyed watching them while reaching office. Since I had a lot of meetings in the daytime, I completely forgot about the Transferkars till I reached home. As soon as I was at the door, I could hear a big commotion inside. I opened the door to be shocked to see that the Transferkars Drawing room had turned into a battle field. There was a major fight going on to pull something and somehow no one seemed to be a clear winner. I could see Rahul sitting in one corner and smiling, but the senior members were not ready to budge. The moment they saw me, they pounced on me..almost. I did not know what to do and almost all of them were reminding me of the talk, which they had with me in the morning and the “Support” which I had apparently promised to them. I could not take it any more and shouted at the top of my voice to make them quiet and asked them in a pleading tone as to why and for what did they need my “Support?” (“Please koi batao ki mera support kis liye aur kahaa chahiye?”) They looked at each other and again all started speaking at once. It was very difficult to make out what each wanted to say, but I could hear a few words clearly which included “remote”, ‘Channel” and “TV Program” I made my way to Rahul in the midst of all this and requested him to tell me the details. Rahul told me that this battle was on to get control of the TV remote. All wanted to watch what they wanted and in most cases their choice of channels and TV Programs was different.
I rushed to my room on the pretext of changing and made a call to our friendly executives at TATA Sky and asked them to get the Transfer box. I knew the new generation Personal Video recorder (PVR) was their only rescue. Once the team came down to install the TATA Sky + Transfer, with great difficulty I made them calm down and asked them all to sit on the famous sofa without fighting and let the installation happen. Since I was already using this service in my previous house, I took the explanation Onus on me. I showed them the new Wi-Fi enabled set top box and digital video recorder which can push the recorded content to ant Tab or smart phones. I also told them that it has a 500GB storage capacity, which was Huge for the content they watched. They could also Pause+Record+Rewind Live TV. I could see the silence in the room after I spoke these words. I was encouraged to speak further and told them that it had a 1080i High Definition picture quality with a 16:9 wide aspect ratio. It had an additional tuner which could be used in future. It had a CVBS (Composite Video & Stereo audio connectors) interface also built in. It had Video on Demand (VOD) and Dolby Digital Plus (with up to 7.1 channels of premium quality Surround Sound) too. They could record any and every content they wanted and transfer it on their respective Smart phones or Tablets using Wi-Fi. While I was saying this, Rahul walked in with his iPad and gave it to me, I guess he wanted me to show the practical demo to the Transferkars. I asked Dadi for her favorite WWE Episode being featured at that time and recorded it along with demands from others as per their respective fields of interest. With the TATA Sky+Transfer features explained, they seemed to have calmed down a bit. We were done with the recordings in an hour. In the meanwhile I had downloaded the app on their devices and registered them too. Once done, I showed them how to transfer their respective content to their gadgets using the streaming over the internet. We left the devices in the Wi-Fi range near the Tata Sky+ Transfer Set top box to get the episodes transferred and broke for dinner. I had smartly registered Kajals device too, and put it for Transferring her favorite program “Game of Thrones” to avoid clashes later, knowing her reputation and love for the episodes like me .
I was made to sit at the head table at the Transferkars dining Table. All were looking at me admiringly and I knew in they were all in happy with me. Dada and Dadi had already started singing my praises. As we finished our meal, Kajal Transferkar walked in. I had only heard about her, but as soon as we saw each other, we both knew we would be very good friends in the future, maybe something more than just good friends. She went alongside Dilip and showed him her cell. Both of them watched it for a while and I was tensed and wondering how they would react now. I had recorded for her Game of Thrones episode she had missed the previous night, which she had missed due to their internal war for the remote. Dilip looked at me admiringly for making Kajal Happy and Kajal was drowned in my eyes and I was sure she was falling for me. I told her that I too was a Game of Thrones fan and would love to see all 10 well-paced episodes of the current season and that was the reason why I had taken Tata Sky + Transfer. She walked over to me and offered an ice cream affectionately without blinking her eyes once. I knew instantly it was love. We both were huge fans of Game of thrones and we had watched almost all of the 40+ episodes of the same. We both were of the view that all should get a chance to watch the entire series and we both were happy that now we would be able to watch the episodes anytime, anywhere by just streaming the recorded episode on our mobiles and watching it anytime over the next 48 hours.
The Transferkars hurried out to check their respective gadgets which had recorded their respective programs and all got busy watching their shows. As far as me and Kajal, we spent some more time discussing our likes and dislikes. I knew Love was blooming and it was all due to TataSky+Transfer, our mutual liking for Game of Thrones and our Fight to the end attitude which had got us close.
Life gave me Love and Tata Sky+Transfer gave me my favorite program “Game of Thrones” to be watched anytime, anywhere on my Mobile.
