Gupta Sandwiches & Snacks

Gupta Sandwiches & Snacks started primarily in Vashi some 20-21 years back as a pure sandwich and eventually some juices were introduced. I will post a review separately for that. In 2014 they started a branch next to ICICI Bank at Sector 20 Kharghar at Shilp Chowk. They brought along with them the legacy of the Vashi Gupta Sandwich & Snacks of 20 years and an ISO certification ISO 9001-2008. This food review happens only because I wanted to check the taste after nearly an year post launch.

Decor
Gupta Sandwiches & Snacks fall on the main road at Sector 20, Kharghar and is easily visible while traveling. The food counter is set-up inside the Joint and one has to go inside to get food. Ample open space with seating is available. You can see what is available at the counter and you get only what you have ordered. The ambience is casual and the brightness inside the joint is good. The bright colors attract one’s eyes and the décor is fairly well maintained.

Food
Being a Sandwich Food joint, the bifurcation is 40:60 for parcels/Home deliveries against walk-in customers. Most customers are repeats who are compulsory Sandwich eaters and who love to eat outside. The specialty of the place has always been the Jumbo Grilled Sandwich and host of all other sandwiches including Masala Toast, Chocolaty Bites Toast, Chilly Cheese toast, Veggie Cheese Toast, Mayo Grilled, Paneer Grilled and Mushroom Cheesy Grilled sandwiches.

You have the choice of taking a regular or a Jumbo Sandwich. Having described this Let me come to the reason why I had been there. I had been to taste the chat section and the Pizza. I did not introduce myself as a Food blogger, but went in as a regular customer and ordered a Jumbo Cheesy Grilled sandwich to be parcelled.

The size and quantity has remained the same, but it was not as tasty as it used to be. Maybe the same was done in a hurry.

I found the famous Gupta Chutney too lacking the same taste like the Vashi Outlet. I moved on to the chat counter, which was crowded and spoke to a few ladies who said they come often to eat Chat, Bhel Puri, Pani Puri and Sev Puri. I tried the Pani Puri and it was good. I ordered a Traditional Gupta Style Pizza but was greatly disappointed for the wait time I had to give. Once home I immediately opened it, but had turned soggy and that showed the packing was not up to the mark, no wonder they can’t beat the Traditional Pizza makers in India.

Plus and Minus – A honest Review
The ambience is pleasant, cleanliness is fantastic. The Chat is good and with so many repeat customers its worth trying. The other food, including sandwich and Pizza lacks the spice and flavor it had over all these years in Vashi outlet and one leaves the place disheartened. After all, food is all about taste. I was pretty disappointed with the new outlet and hope the management does something fast to get back the same taste.
