Mamak Inspired Mi Sedaap Recipe

Inspired by the beloved Kai Ma dish from Mamak Lorong in Malaysia, a late-night favourite in Subang, this Mi Sedaap recipe was created by Time Out. This flavourful creation combines minced burger patties, eggs, onions, and cheese. Explore the full recipe below.

Sedaap

Ingredients:

  • Red onions
  • Minced beef / chicken patties
  • Cheese
  • Chilli sauce
  • Barbeque sauce
  • Mayonnaise
  • Eggs
  • 1 packet Mi Sedaap instant noodles

How to Make This Mamak Inspired Mi Sedaap Dish

  1. Start by heating a bit of oil in a pan and frying some sliced red onions until they release that delicious aroma.
  2. Add your burger patties to the pan, breaking them up into chunky bits as they cook. You can use chicken patties for a lighter taste that pairs well with the savoury Mi Sedaap noodles, but if you’re after a richer flavour, beef is a fantastic choice.
  3. Crack in two eggs and stir them into the mix. If you’re in the mood for something extra filling, go for two patties and two eggs.
  4. Once the meat is nicely browned, set it aside.
  5. Next, cook the noodles in boiling water for about three minutes, then drain them.
  6. Toss the noodles with the seasoning packet, chilli sauce, barbeque sauce, mayonnaise and Kriuk Kriuk for a delicious base.
  7. Pile on the minced patty mixture over your noodles.
  8. While everything is still hot, add some sliced cheese to melt over the top, and finish with a generous drizzle of chilli sauce, barbecue sauce, and mayo.

Crunchy Vietnamese Style Spring Rolls

  • Cornstarch
  • Egg

How to Make Vietnamese Style Mi Sedaap Spring Rolls

  1. Cook Mi Sedaap instant noodles as per package instructions, but without adding the seasoning. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a bowl, marinate the prawns with soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic powder, grated ginger, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Let them sit for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Lightly coat each prawn with cornstarch to help them crisp up when frying.
  4. Take a small portion of the cooked noodles and wrap them tightly around each prawn, starting from the tail and working your way up to fully encase the prawn.
  5. Use the beaten egg to lightly brush over the noodle-wrapped prawns, ensuring the noodles stay in place while frying.
  6. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or fryer to 180°C (350°F). Gently place the noodle-wrapped prawns in the hot oil and fry until the noodles are golden and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
