Sabja seeds-A natural coolant for Summers

Hello friends, how are you all? Since it is Summertime,  I am here with a post about something that is really beneficial for our health to beat the heat. It is Sabja seeds aka Sweet Basil seeds or Falooda seeds.

How to use Sabja seeds

In order to fully get the benefits of these seeds,  you must soak them in water for half an hour. You will note that these double up in size upon absorbing water.  Just Strain the excess water and use these seeds in milkshakes, smoothies, lemonade, juices, buttermilk or falooda ice cream.

1.Helps in Digestion

Due to excellent carminative effects, it is proven that Sabja seeds are beneficial for digestion. Sabja seeds are packed with highly soluble fibers including Pectin and contain natural detoxifying agents. It has also been found through studies that Sabja seeds improve the flora of your Gut and act as a natural probiotic.

2. Heals Acidity and Heartburn

Sabja seeds can be added to milkshakes and consumed in order to treat the chronic problem of acidity and heartburn. Also,  these help in getting bowel movements smoothly since they soften the stools and provide it with bulk.

3.  Weight loss

Sabja Seeds help you to shed your extra weight in a safe and natural way. Soaked Sabja seeds become gelatinous and are really filling. You can add these to Lemonade and drink it up approx half an hour prior to your meals.  The high fiber content keeps you full and satisfied for long preventing hunger pangs and unhealthy eating.

4.  Good source of Minerals

Sabja seeds are loaded with Calcium,  Magnesium, and Iron. So, these can help make up for the mineral deficit in our diet.

5. Help in reducing Blood Sugar levels in Diabetics

Those suffering from Diabetes can consume Sabja seeds in water or low-fat milk, half an hour after every meal for improved blood sugar levels.

6. Great for skin

Being a natural detox herb, sabja seeds can help to give you clear skin. These are loaded with plant-derived antioxidants including Flavonoids and Polyphenols. Therefore,  they have anti-aging benefits for the skin. Applied locally, in a paste form, these can help treat acne and eczema.

7. Regulate Body Heat

Sabja seeds work as a natural,  coolant for your body in the summer season. You can add this to nimbu pani, homemade ice creams or Rooh afza.

My favourite way to use Sabja seeds

I add pre soaked sabja seeds to this refreshing Strawberry Slush

Ingredients:

  • Water in which Sabja seeds have been soaked for half an hour.
  • Crushed Ice.
  • Strawberry Syrup. ( Alternatively,  you can use Roohafza, Rose syrup or Khus syrup)
  • Juice of half a Lemon.
  • Mint Leaves for garnish and that zesty punch of freshness.

Simply combine the above ingredients and mix well.  Garnish and relish. If you are Diabetic, you may use Sugar-free instead of Syrup.
