Potoba Pure Veg – A honest Review.

Potoba – Santacruz (E), is the second restaurant and the other being at Mahim. The third is outside Mumbai (in Pune). This has a lot of Food options, but I went in to check the Maharashtrian dishes.Though the menu says Malvani food, it has dishes from all over Maharashtra. Almost all who have visited the Potoba joints would have tried these I am sure. The Santacruz (E) joint is located on a strategic corner of a busy cross road and once can’t miss it even if one wants to. The variety of dishes do tempt you once you see the Menu card.

Ambiance

The Potoba Joint is moderately done. The lights are just okay. There is nothing special about the ambiance as such. The space utilization is optimized. The tables are too congested for a person like me who loves to sit at ease. The tables and the décor are also mediocre. The billing counter is too close to the dining place. It appears that the tables are fitted forcefully to accommodate more people.

Food

I tried the Maharashtrian food at Potoba. The Masale Bhaat was neat, but not what we get typically in Pune. The Pithala Bhakri comes moderately made, yet tasty. The Ghats and the Kolhapur area serve this kind of Pithala Bhakri right from Pune upwards. I find the Shikran Poli to be innovative with banana added to kheer. The kothimbir vadi is also good. The sol kadhi is awesome. The Paneer Mutter and Roti is just about average.I did not try the other cuisines.

Service

The Service at Potoba is definitely not fast. The whole scenario depends on what you order. Maharashtrian dishes definitely take some time. The staff definitely needs training in serving and plating.

Plus and Minus

To start with the Plus, the Joint is strategically located. They have a huge advantage over other Joints of similar class. The joint is full during business hours. Foodies like me will definitely go here for tasting the various Maharashtrian dishes which are not available easily elsewhere.

The Minus are quite a few. I feel the Décor can be improved a bit more with more life in the lights. The Tables definitely need to be replaced with more elegant and spacious ones.Since I am a food nutritionist, I am very particular about excess calories. I can say that some of of the dishes are very healthy. It is possible to reduce the wait time by speeding up the cooking. One does not mind waiting for his/her food when something is nearby to drink. A few drink options on the Menu would be welcome. The staff needs big time training on serving Etiquetes etc.The ratings drop majorly due to the mannerisms of serving.

I did not reveal that I am a food blogger even after I paid my bill.

  1. Oh, the food there looks good. Indian food is always inviting for me, though I have just tried a few. But that kothimbir vadi is a must try! You know, I love fried stuff! 😀 Hihi.
