Honest Review – King of Kebabs

King of Kebabs – Sanpada serves Mughlai and rolls primarily. Over the last 2 years, they have managed to pull good crowd for home deliveries as well as sit outs. They have a small seating and mostly deliver at home. The fact that they are right next to a huge Domino’s outlet and still doing well impressed me. We decided to check the food and also check the service. So after a long day of social service for our NGO Being the Real Human Foundation, we decided to visit their place.

The managing partner Hatim was courteous to greet us and gave some valuable inputs as we browsed the menu. The KK menu is simple yet comprehensive. The place is small so don’t expect a lavish seating or Air conditioning. Having said that, they have made a name for themselves as a brand over the last 2 years. They serve pretty quickly and I liked their transparency of the kitchen separated only with a glass wall.

We ordered Mutton Seekh Kebab, Mutton Shami Kebab, Chicken Leg Fry along with some Chicken Baida Roti, Chicken achari kebab and Chicken Tawa Fry.

King of KebabsFood review of King of Kebabs:

Now coming to the food eating experience: The Mutton Seekh Kebabs is the showstopper of this place. Definitely recommended. The Tender mutton mince is marinated in the spices for a good number of hours. The kebabs are soft and succulent with the flavor of ginger and onion bursting in your mouth as eats, but never overpowering the mince meat. The supporting mint chutney and the Tangy red chutney only add up to the taste. Now this balance of flavor is difficult to maintain and I can tell you as a chef. So hats off to the chef for pulling this one off excellently.

King of KebabsThe Chicken Baida Roti is good and filling. I have nothing special to point out for this except that the chicken and egg combination in the Roti has worked out very well. If you are really hungry, then this one is the most economical option.

King of KebabsThe Achari kebab was again well marinated. I could not get a single chicken fibre while I tasted these kebabs. They were grilled just perfect so that none of the piece was overdone. The kebabs were soft and moist and the juice of the spices had redistributed itself well in the chicken. The kebab size is perfect and is not too big. They give about 6 pieces in a seekh which is at par with industry standards.

The Shami Kebab is soft and succulent with the right blend of the spices. The ginger does not hit too hard but at the same time makes its presence felt with each bite. The Kebab is their speciality so they turn out well any which ways I suppose. The only suggestion which I have for the chef here is if he could use fine strands of the cooked meat in the mix of Shami Kebabs before they are rolled, it will give that Original Pakistani Shami Kebab feel to the dish. It is tedious but yes, the results are absolutely  mind blowing.

The Chicken Leg Fry did not appeal me much as there was nothing special about either the taste nor the spices added. So unless someone wants to eat this because he/she is a die hard fan of friend chicken, only then this would work.

King of KebabsTawa chicken is a big disappointment as the overall dish was too bland. Typically the Tawa chicken has a lot of spice punch with soft, tender shredded pieces of chicken. What we get is a very mild spiced version of a thick paste instead of the fresh tawa gravy. The chef can definitely improve on this dish.

Once the order is placed the food is put on the Tawa/Grill immediately and you can see it being cooked in real time. So no delay in serving the food unless of course if there is a bottleneck at the grill. I sure this would be happening at times but definitely did not happen with me.

Plus and Minus

Like I always say, as a Food blogger and chef, I am choosy about the food and look at all aspects when the end product is served. I always look at bettering the dish and the menu further to the point of perfection. While the other dishes were pretty good, I found the Chicken Tawa and the Chicken Leg fry a bit disappointing.  Maybe the Joint should focus only on Kebabs which is their speciality or improve the recipe of the se two dishes.

King of KebabsHaving said that I would definitely give a 4.5/5 for service and 4.0/5 for the food. I will give the extra 0.5 for the time taken for marinating/preparation of each dish and I was pleased with what was served. The overall 1.0 is deducted because there is always scope for improvement of food quality and Hygiene/cleanliness. I have discussed this with the Owner and I am sure they will take it positively and serve me the improvised versions soon. This is definitely one place I would recommend for people who need taste and tenderness of grilled food and especially Kebab fans.

Address: King of Kebabs, Shop 10, Plot 1, Moraj Residency, Sector 16, Sanpada, Navi Mumbai.

Meal For 2: Though my bill came to 850/- for two, I would say 500/- is a decent average cost for 2 here.

Timings: 5.00 pm to Midnight ( Go before 10pm if you want to choose and eat the dishes)

  1. I would
Love to try achari kabab it looks something that I woudl really enjoy. Def visit KK whenever I can 🙂

  2. This looks like an efficient kitchen joint. Like the marinating was done well as the longer the marinating the better the flavour and tender the meat. The Shami kebab looked good and so do the achari ones

  3. A typical fast food Mumbai joint, I was drooling at the kabab dishes featured here. Would love to have anyday 🙂 however, for me presentation too matters when it comes to food. Probably a bit of packaging it might be worth a try. Thanks for sharing the great kababs here.

  4. I’m feeling hungry right now. I’m lover of kebab especially chicken. And at kings of kebab they are serving so many version. Love that their cooking area is open.

  5. OMG..I am drooling right now. Loved all the pictures and kababs are my favourite. Mutton seekh kababs are my all time favourites and it’s hard to find that perfect taste everywhere. Good review.

  6. Oh wow ! Seems like some mouth-watering treat. Loved the way you seem to have shared an honest feedback. One thing I have observed is that, small places are generally loved by a lot of people. Many times people think that the hug places that are extravagant will run, that is hardly the case. There is one waffle place in Bangalore that makes bubble waffle, which is very small but is always crowded. In this case, the price is high but people just love it. Nyways, I am personally a foodie, seem to have gone on a different tangent. Thanks for sharing a good review.

    1. Thank you for that elaborate comment. I agree there with you. Many small joints serve the best food. I have made it a point to go to any place which has a good repute for tasty food. After all for us the food matters, not the size of the place.. 🙂
