A real tattoo is a big deal. It’s a permanent tag that stays with you forever unless you go through an expensive treatment to remove it. So, you mustn’t decide to get a tattoo just to show you’re a badass. Do it for yourself and only if it makes you feel good. There’s nothing wrong with getting inked, or the world doesn’t end if you don’t get inked either.

Well, if you have already made up your mind and planning to get inked anyways then here are few things to consider before getting a tattoo.

What are the things to Consider Before Getting a Tattoo?

Before you proceed with the process of getting your first ever tattoo, you need to consider specific points. No need to work as here you will find few things to Consider Before Getting a Tattoo.

Things to Consider Before Getting a Tattoo

#1.  Meaning:

Before proceeding with a tattoo, the first thing to consider is the meaning behind your tattoo. Well! It is not just an image, and it will stay inked forever on your skin. So you need to know the meaning of your tattoo.

#2. Cost:

Budget is a vital factor regarding everything. You need to decide a budget, and according to that, you can determine what size or colour of tattoo you want. The price factor depends mainly on the artist, size, etc.

#3. Size:

Size is an essential factor when it comes about the tattoo. Well! If you are scared to get your first tattoo done, then you should go for a smaller size tattoo as it will be painless. The bigger the design, the more pain it will cause. So keeping this size factor in mind can help you to decide as per your tolerance level.

#4. Pain Tolerance:

The most important part is to know about your level of pain you can tolerate. If you are some who can’t endure the injection pain, then you shouldn’t go for a tattoo. Otherwise, keep in mind that big muscles will cause less pain than the areas having more bone parts. Also, hidden tattoos will hurt more as they will remain covered for the day and will not get the time to heal naturally.

To minimize your pain level, you can always take a non-aspirin anti-inflammatory pain reliever at an interval of 15 minutes before you enter the shop for the tattoo.

#5. Location:

Location can determine a lot of factors. You pain level can increase or decrease as per the location of your tattoo.

    1. Try with a small one inch first. See how your skin reacts, how the overall feel is against your skin texture and colour. If all appreciate and you yourself feel comfortable with it, then only go ahead and make a Big one. 🙂

  2. I have thought about getting a tattoo at some point in my life. I almost know what is the design I want and where. But I don’t know when I will get it!

  3. Okay so I’ll confess I thought of getting inked many times, but somehow couldn’t till now. It’s not that I fear pain. I am into a noble profession i.e.teaching and if you have a tatoo and can’t show it, what’s the point, No? But now again your post has reignited the flames…

  4. Now this is something that’s not much talked about. An information on the same is very useful. I am definitely going to consider all these points in the future.

  5. To be frank, I have never seen anyone with a tattoo ever in my life. But lately have been seeing many virtual friends having 1 or more tattoos and that made me think at least a couple of times to try it out. But since I have a very low level of pain tolerance, I think I should let the whole idea go out of my mind!! Anyhow this is an amazing article which covers almost all the aspects of tattooing. #superbloggerchallenge #instacuppa

  6. Never done a tattoo earlier. Your tips are helpful. I see that many people go for fancy and stylish tattoos without bothering to know the meaning behind it. As you mentioned, no one should get a tattoo just to look stylish, but to be done only if they feel comfortable and happy about it.

  7. Every year I plan for tattoo and then I postponed . Only God knows when will I get courage to get it done.. May be I get some motivation after reading your post.

  16. This is a really nice informative post listing the ´dos and donts´when getting a tattoo done. While I don´t mind tattoos, what goes against them for me is the fact that they are permanent. I might not be the same person 5 years from now and have an entirely different philosophy of life 🙂 Temporary tattoos ..hennas make me feel more at ease personally 🙂

I remember, my first tattoo was just an adventure I did during one of my office lunch breaks. I don’t regret any part of it. But yes, the only thing I kept in my mind was the hygiene factor!

  21. I have two tattoos. When I got my first one I was very nervous but the tattoo lady was very helpful and kept me calm throughout. The pain is what’s scary.

  22. I remember getting my first tattoo. The place from outside didn’t even look like a tattoo parlour but the artist made me so comfortable 🙂 I still love my tattoo

  23. I think before going for a permanent tattoo, one should try shape or word or anything on a temporary basis or as a temporary tattoo. I had tried one temporary and the way it turned, I never thought of getting a permanent tattoo.
